Originally from Australia, Emma moved to Bergen in 2016 after falling in love with the city and a local guy. Emma taught Scandinavian film at the University of Oslo for two years before discovering her true passion – tourism! She has been working as a local guide ever since. For a few years Emma worked as a tour leader, taking groups on Hurtigruten, to Svalbard, and all over Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Estonia and Iceland for both summer and the winter northern lights seasons. Now Emma is back in Bergen and ready to show people how great the city is!
Emma started I Love Bergen in 2021 to give visitors to Bergen the best possible experience!
“Amazing tour with Emma today! Very informative and interesting, we learned so much
about Bergen. Really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend!”
“This was definitely worth it, our guide Emma was very knowledgeable, we never felt that we were rushed and we learnt a lot about Bergen. Emma also gave us good suggestions of
other activities to do during our stay. I would definitely recommend this tour.”
“It was beautiful to see the city with the stories about it. Emma was very enthusiastic and it was nice to listen to her. Also good and fine to share with a group.”
“With only 2 days in Bergen, we wanted to get familiar with the area quickly so we could enjoy it and not miss anything. The tour did exactly that, and our guide Emma was knowledgeable and made it an enjoyable tour. The areas around Bryggen were covered well, and we neither got bored nor felt rushed. In the following day and a half, we had a great time doing what we wanted instead of trying to find our way around.”
“Even though the weather wasn’t great for a walking tour, I really enjoyed it. Emma was very knowledgeable and engaging. She shared interesting information, and did a great job of recommending restaurants, sites, and experiences in Bergen. She also worked hard to interact with all the guests, which is nice (so often a tour guide only talks to one or two people and every one else feels like a tagalong).”
This is how mesmerising Bergen can be. I was born in Poland where I graduated from Dutch language and culture and then came here in 2013. It was supposed to be an adventure for a year or two but both me and my husband found our home in Bergen. I have been guiding ever since I moved here. I love my job and wouldn’t change it for anything else. Bergen is about great people, fascinating history and beautiful nature at your doorstep.
“The tour guide Magda was excellent. She was both knowledgeable and interesting, very personable and had a great sense of humour. The tour was a pleasure from start to finish and I would recommend this experience to anyone who wants to get a feel for Bergen and also for Norway in general.”
“Magda was an outstanding guide. She was professional, knowledgeable and respectful of not only the people on the tour but also considered her Bergen fellow citizens as we toured. Keeping her voice low in residential areas. Etc. We learned a lot of history of Bergen and she made it interesting and fun. I highly recommend this tour. Her enthusiasm for sharing her knowledge and the culture of Bergen showed. Thank you for a great tour”
“Magda is really nice and friendly. Everything went smooth and well. Length of the tour is just about right in presence of weather and sometimes time that you have before your flight, as in our case. Strong recommendation ;)”
“Our guide Magda was great! A good overview of all of the chosen locations and plenty of time for asking questions as well as interesting trivia. We also took note and went to some of the places she suggested and really enjoyed all of them!”
“Magda was a wonderful guide. She paced the tour well and gave us some really interesting snippets of history and fascinating insights into the unique culture and character of Bergen. She was able to make everything interesting and relatable for everyone n our group – aged 19-60+. She also picked up on our particular interests and made a small detour to show us something she knew we would love!”
Greetings from your local Bergenser. Born and raised here in Bergen, Eirik lived near the top of the Mount Fløyen for most of his life, and now lives in Sandviken, just a few minutes outside the city centre. He has for years been working at different restaurants, cafes, stores, museums and more across Bergen, and knows all the best parks and waterholes. With a masters in Digital Culture he is currently working on applying for a PhD position at the local university, and also works as a Barista at Starbucks. His favorite pastime is hiking on the mountains, swimming, bowling and frisbee. He was born in Bergen and is planning on dying in Bergen, but hopefully not any time soon.
“Eirik was a very patient and knowledgeable guide. I highly recommend this trip as soon as you arrive in Bergen as it will help you understand the history and guide you for the rest of your time there. I’ve been on a few Viator trips in Europe and have always had an excellent experience.”
“Our walking tour was lead by Eirik who gave us a real insight into the history and everyday life in Bergen. Eirik made the city come alive and being a local to Bergen he was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his home town. He took us to places we would never have found on our own and it was a real highlight to our stay. Highly recommended.”
“Eirik was excellent guide – very knowledgeable and made tour extremely interesting. Also helpful with local recommendations of other places to visit in Bergen, and the best restaurants”
“This was a fantastic walking tour. Eirik was the best guide we have had anywhere in the world. We really enjoyed how he passed on his in depth knowledge of Bergen and we learnt a lot about Norwegian history in a succinct and clear way. He was able to answer all our questions. We would recommend everyone go on this great walking tour and make sure to be with Eirik!”
Hailing from Norway’s capital and Bergen’s eternal rival city Oslo, Dane moved here in 2013 intending to stay for a maximum of three years. Over a decade later he’s still here, having studied history at the local university and fallen in love with the city (though well aware that with him being from Oslo, that is a feeling that will never be reciprocated).
“Dane gave an excellent tour of Bergen, giving just the write amount of history, local
information, lore, and humor. He was very interactive with us, answering all of our questions
and providing great tips for restaurants and follow-on site seeing.”
“My wife and I have done many walking tours over the years, and this was arguably the best ever. Dane, our tour guide, was exceptional. As a history major, his knowledge of Scandinavian, and especially Norwegian, history was limitless. He wove together the sites along our walk with the story of this wonderful city in a truly engaging way. In spite of the rainy, windy weather, the time flew by. All in all, this was our favorite activity in Bergen.”
“Dane is an incredible guide! He is immensely knowledgable and very personable. This tour is a fab way to introduce you to Bergen/Norway and its history. You are taken down the less trodden paths of the city, whilst learning about the charms of the buildings and its people. Ask any question and you get a detailed and well thought answer. Dane also had plenty of tips on what to visit after the tour, where to eat and drink, and where to find good live music. This company is very professional and goes above and beyond. Highly recommend!”
“This tour was wonderful due to our excellent guide, Dane. He made the history so interesting that we were all captivated. He took us to places that only a local would know about, including a lookout over the city. He was so happy to answer questions about Bergen, but also recommended places to eat based on our tastes. After the tour, a few of us had a coffee in a local bar/Cafe with him. I would highly recommend this tour!”
“I took this tour on a rainy morning with Dane as our guide. He is excellent – funny, knowledgable, very willing to answer questions and provide insights. We saw the castle, but then he took us into a neighbourhood to give us a feel for life in Bergen. Terrific tour, one of the best ones I’ve taken.”
My name is Kristina and I grew up in Bergen. I have studied Outdoor Leadership aka friluftsliv in Bø i Telemark, two hours west for Oslo, but i have finally returned home. My interest for the outdoors and all its activities have been with me since I was little. My family have always liked to be outside and especially in the mountains here in Bergen both on skies and by foot. The beautiful nature and closeness to the city is why I desided to move back to Bergen after 5 years living on the east-side and in the north, nothing can compare.
“Our walk around the historical part of Bergen with Kristina was amazing! She made us feel part of the history and present of Norway in general and Bergen in particular by sharing funny and relatable stories of the local life and culture. Very insightful and engaging! I can’t recommend it more!”
“Our guide Kristina delivered our two hour with skill and professionalism. She clearly loves Bergen and was anxious to tell us all about the history, and why sometimes things turned out very different from the normal. Comprehensive and well paced even when climbing some of the hilly streets.”
“Kristina was very knowledgeable and a good and fun story teller about Bergen and
the Norwegian culture and history. We had a great time walking up and down the small
streets we probably would not have been to otherwise.”
“Kristina was a great guide, knowledgable about the history, local customs, local food. Pace of walking was appropriate. She has a friendly demeanor, easy to understand English.”
Born in England I moved to Bergen in 1994 to help set up a daughter company for the Scottish people I worked for. I´ve been here ever since. Eventually the company moved to Haugesund, we tried it there but missed Bergen too much, so we returned, and I started guiding in 2015. I love it and wouldn’t change my job for anything. Bergen is magical, it has it all. Apart from guiding, my favourite pastime is walking my dog in the mountains and forests around Bergen.
“Finding ourselves with an extra day in Bergen due to cancelled flights, we booked this tour… it was very enjoyable and gave us a more comprehensive look at Bergen. Neil’s obviously loves his city and this shines through. The bus driver also did a great job of getting us around. I would recommend this tour as a starting, or ending point of a brief stay in Bergen, and Neil is a very professional guide.”
“Our tour guide was great. He was full of great information and delivered it in a entertaining way. I wish I could be sure of his name…Neil, I think. The walk was easy and enjoyable. I would highly recommend this tour of Bergen!! Bergen was one highlight of a great trip up the coast of Norway. :-)”
“Neil is extremely friendly and is extremely knowledgeable. The tour was a good pace and we
saw parts of Bergen we probably would never have got to ourselves. Thanks again Neil….A
must when visiting Bergen!”
“We learned so much about Bergen, its history and culture from Neil. We would definitely
recommend this tour.”
My name is Fabiola. I was born in Brazil, and I have been residing in Norway since 2014. Over the past 15 years, I have been working organizing events and national/international trips at the Government Palace for the Governor and High Authorities in São Paulo, Brazil. Having moved to Bergen a decade ago, I transitioned to working as a guide. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations from the University of São Paulo, Brazil. Upon moving to Norway, I specialized in guiding. Since 2016, I am proud to say that I am a certified guide here in Bergen, exploring the fjords and various destinations across Norway. This profession is my passion; it brings me immense joy as I am constantly amazed by the incredible history, nature and people. My children are Norwegian, and it brings me great pleasure to share everything I’ve learned and experienced with my guests every day.
“Fabiola was an excellent guide …. and delivered a perfect blend of historical information as well as a great insight into Norway today. Highly recommend.”
“Guide Fabiola helped us experience Bergen in a wonderful way! We saw all the important
sights there. It was a terrific afternoon.”
“Fabiola was the best guide possible. In the midst of national holiday busyness she kept our
whole group engaged and super enthusiastic. She knows everything and is
super good with people. We learned a lot but also had loads of fun. Thank you again!”
“Fabiola was a great guide and gave us lots of interesting information. Bergen has a lot of
history and it was nice to see some areas we may have missed if we hadn’t done this tour.
Well worth it”
Neal fell in love with Bergen about 15 years ago and finally gave up and exchanged London for Bergen in the spring of 2022. He’s a musician/artist, communicator and story teller who gets excited about the history of Bergen/Norway and draws on his background in linguistics, radio and music. Was Davy Crockett at Disneyland California and went to the cinema with Queen Elizabeth II while he was living in London.
“Neil was very articulate and explained the history with great colour and clarity. And
answered all questions put succinctly without loosing the thread of his commentary. You
were never rushed to keep up yet not dawdling.”
“Our guide is Neal, he is so wonderful, full of the knowledge of Norwegian culture, custom and history! He is very patient to answer all the questions we have with humerus, so our suppose two hours tour ended in almost 2.5 hours! We live to come back to Bergen just to see him again!”
“Our tour guide Neal was the best! He is friendly and informative and allowed us to ask questions along the way. We definitely recommend Neal!”
“We had an excellent tour with Neal and highly recommend him. He is very personable, well informed, gave us much valuable and interesting information and brought Bergen to life. It was definitely a past and present Bergen. Thank you Neal – we are very pleased to have met you and learned from you.”
“Neal was great. Very informative about Bergen’s history and culture. Welcomed any questions. Warm and friendly. Highly recommended!”
